Jenny feels humbled to work in the mental health field and this is reflected in her passion as a counselor. She is a licensed clinical mental health associate (LCMHCA) and a nationally certified counselor in the state of North Carolina. Jenny earned her M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina State University. Additionally, Jenny received her B.A. from the University of Delaware in Interpersonal Communications and a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Special Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Prior to pursuing counseling, Jenny taught elementary, middle and high school Special Education. Jenny’s ability to form meaningful connections and build rapport with all students, inspired a well-informed transition from teacher to mental health counselor. Jenny spent five years in the classroom embracing her ability to use creative instincts so that she could effectively address and honor all unique learning needs and styles. Jenny’s experiences in the school system gave her deeper appreciation of the importance of empowering a young person’s self-esteem by identifying their unique strengths and values. Jenny believes every person has the fundamental human right to feel valued, accepted, seen and heard. She greets her clients with unconditional positive regard, empathy and a genuine desire to hear their experiences.

Jenny draws from a variety of evidence-based approaches including Person-centered, Psychoanalytic, Narrative and Interpersonal Therapy to meet her clients where they are and help them grow and thrive at their own pace. One of Jenny’s grounding philosophies is her belief that human beings have the internal resources to enhance their lives and create lasting change. Jenny applies techniques from systems theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness training, imagery, art and music to reach her clients and provide them with a toolbox of resources so that they can achieve their goals and see progress. Jenny views counseling as a partnership that can move people towards positive change so that they may succeed and shine through their individual challenges.
